- There's less chance of damaging the fruit.
- It works well on large and small pomelos.
- It's surprisingly satisfying to peel.
What You'll Need

How to Peel a Pomelo
Step 1: Cut around the middle of the pomelo
Insert a sharp knife into the thick rind and carefully cut all the way around the pomelo's circumference. Try not to cut too deeply. You only want to cut through the thick rind, not into the fruit itself.
Step 2: Test the cut
Use your fingers to gently pull the rind apart at the cut line. If the rind separates easily, you've cut deeply enough. If not, carefully deepen the cut slightly before continuing.

Step 3: Peel away the upper rind
Starting at the cut line, slowly peel the rind away from the fruit using your fingers. Do this by inserting your fingers to separate the fruit away from the rind in sections at a time.
Step 4: Remove the top half of the rind
Continue peeling until the entire top portion of the rind lifts away.
Step 5: Separate the fruit from the bottom rind
Using your fingers, gently work around the edges to loosen the fruit from the remaining rind. If you find a stubborn section, you can carefully use a knife to help separate the pith from the rind. Be careful not to cut into the juicy segments.

Step 6: Lift out the whole pomelo
Once loosened, use your hand to lift the entire fruit out of the bottom half of the rind. At this stage you'll have a large ball of fruit still covered in the white pith.
Step 7: Peel and enjoy
Peel the pomelo just as you would a mandarin by separating it into sections and removing the thick membrane around each segment. The juicy flesh inside is now ready to eat.

Tips for Peeling a Pomelo Easily
- Use a sharp knife to avoid slipping.
- Cut only through the rind, not the fruit.
- Work slowly when separating the fruit from the bottom rind.
