Pangkor Island is a small island on the West coast of Malaysia's Peninsula in the Malaysian state of Perak. It's a popular island holiday destination for local Malaysians and expats (like myself), and is lesser known to international tourists. The water is not as crystal clear as the East coast islands but is still an excellent choice to enjoy some sun, sea, sandy beaches, and beautiful sunsets. The weather also makes this island suitable to visit year round, unlike the east coast islands.
Pangkor Island VS Pangkor Laut Island
Pangkor Island is the main tourist island with several options for hotels and with lots of water activities. Alternatively, Pangkor Laut Island is a privately owned island just opposite the larger Pangkor Island. I have only stayed on Pangkor Laut Island at the privately owned Pangkor Laut Resort.
I made this short video of the private island resort, which I will be explaining in further detail in this blog post. Don't worry, all of the videos in this blog post can be viewed without needing to leave the webpage (just press play!)
Pangkor Laut Resort
Pangkor Laut Resort is a luxury resort on it's own private island. Therefore the resort is spread out across the island, with board walks connecting the spa village to the main resort area and a mini bus that transports guests across the Island.
Accommodation on Pangkor Island Private Island Resort
There are several options to choose from for accommodation, with two main areas to the resort including the main resort and the spa village. However, this is not including the estates, which can also be booked privately and are located throughout the island.
I have stayed at both the sea villas at the main resort and also at the spa villas at spa village. Both are great options, but I loved the spa village because it is quiet and more private. Subsequently this makes the spa village a great option for couples or anyone travelling without kids.
Sea Villas, Beach Chalets, & Hill Villas
The sea villas, beach chalets & hills villas are all located within the main resort area. The sea villas make a good option for couples, with the hill villas and beach chalets more popular amongst families. Honestly all options looked fantastic! However, it is important to note that the hill villas require bus transportation as the road is quite steep and some villas are quite far from the main area. For all of these reasons, I prefer to stay at either the sea villas or the spa villas
I took the video below when I was staying at the sea villas.
Likewise, I took the next video below whilst staying at the spa villas
Spa Village
Spa village is the next bay along from the main resort area and is accessible by both the road (for the mini bus) or along the boardwalk. As the name would suggest, spa village is where the resorts spa is located. Furthermore it is where the spa villas are located. I loved staying at the spa village because it is super quiet. The pool at the spa village is not frequented by children, making it perfect for couples or anyone travelling without kids!
The spa villas are almost identical to the sea villas. However, the spa villas have a slightly larger bathroom and a larger spa bathtub.
Whilst you are there make sure to get a spa treatment too. The pampering is world class!
Hot Tip!
Anyone can use the spa village pool area. If you want to save some pennies and stay at the sea villas, but still want the privacy of the spa village pool, then this is also a great option for you!
Activities at Pangkor Laut Island Resort
The private island resort includes tennis courts, a gym, games room, 2 x pools, 3 x restaurants, a spa, jungle hikes, and you can even book a sunset cruise if you want. However, I believe that the main attraction of the resort is Emerald Bay.
Emerald Bay
Emerald bay is located on the West side of the private island and is an incredibly beautiful spot. I like to go here in the afternoon to soak up some sunshine, enjoy snacks, drinks and to also watch the sunset.
Emerald bay will always have a special place in my heart because it is where Matt proposed to me! We then had a beach candlelit dinner whilst watching the sunset. You can also book a beach dinner for a special event or occasion. I have even seen people have weddings here. It is honestly a gorgeous location and is perfect for any special occasion you may want to celebrate.
