A chilli and spaghetti recipe that is made with real tomatoes and a homemade sambal chilli paste. An easy recipes that involves cooking the tomatoes and simply stirring in the sambal and topping with your favourite beans such as petai!
This recipe is inspired by a famous South East Asian chilli paste, sambal chilli paste. You can buy sambal chilli paste from any Asian grocer but it is also super easy to make and can stored in the fridge for up to 1 week and kept in the freezer for up to 1 month. You can make a variety of delicious dishes with sambal chilli paste such as this sambal and petai fried rice recipe.
Why You'll Love This Recipe
Chilli and spaghetti is the perfect flavour combination. The use of the sambal chilli paste with the cooked tomatoes gives a strong aromatic flavour and makes the best spicy spaghetti! The addition of the petai beans is what really tops off this recipe too!
Ingredients
To make this chilli and spaghetti recipe you will need:
Sambal Chilli Paste
1 cup sambal chilli paste. The sambal chilli paste is what makes this recipe. There are many different sambal recipes out there but my all time favourite recipe is inspired by Malaysian and Singaporean recipes. I personally don't use fish paste, which makes this recipe suitable for vegans. You too can make homemade sambal or you can buy it at any Asian grocer.
Tomatoes & Onion
8 tomatoes (approx 1 kg) and 1 brown onion. Fresh tomatoes are used in the sauce and combined with the sambal chilli paste.
Pasta
Use any pasta of choice to make your favourite chilli and spaghetti! I like to use traditional long white pasta.
Petai
Petai! A famous stinky bean from South East Asia. This is of course optional but for petai lovers you're gonna love it!
