How To Make A Green Smoothie
What to put in a green smoothie? The ingredients for a green smoothie can be flexible as long as you follow XX ingredients rules
1. Protein for a green smoothie
๐ Add 1 scoop of protein for additional protein to your smoothies. If you don't take protein powder this can always be substituted for 1 scoop of rolled oats. However rolled oats have far less protein content. You could also substitute 1 scoop of protein powder for 1-2 tablespoon of flaxseeds
2. Choose your greens
๐ Spinach and kale work well in smoothies. Always keep spinach / kale in your freezer so it's always on hand to use. You can start with a small amount (ยผ cup) and gradually add more and more greens to your smoothie as your tasebuds adjust
๐ Zucchini is another great green vegetable to add to your green smoothies. Zucchini will surprisingly add a creamy texture to your smoothie. You can also slice up pieces of zucchini and keep it frozen in your freezer. Ready to use when needed
๐ I usually add spinach, kale, or zucchini to my smoothies. If I want to make it an extra healthy green smoothie, I will add spinach OR kale, plus 3 slices of zuchini
3. Choose your fruit
๐ In this recipe I have chose mango. Mango is a great smoothie option because it is sweet and creates a smooth texture
๐ Other great options for any green smoothie include bananas, pineapple and berries
๐ TIP - add frozen pineapple to this green smoothie if you want it sweeter
4. Choose your plant milk
๐ This smoothie recipe is made with almond milk. You can choose any milk such as soy milk, oat milk, cashew milk etc
๐ TIP - be aware if you plant milk is sweetened already. You definitely won't need to add any sweetener if it is
5. Decide if you need to add sweetener
๐ In this recipe I add 1 teaspoon of stevia. If you are new to green smoothies it can take some time getting use to the green flavour. I recommend to start with it sweet and slowly reduce your sugar / sweetener addition to zero. And at the same time slowly increase the amount of greens you add

What Blender For A Green Smoothie?
A good high speed blender is crucial to a good green smoothie! I personally have tested and tried 3 different blenders:
- The Nutribullet. This was my first blender and it is honestly one of the best budget high speed blenders. I used my Nutribullet for close to 10 years to make all of my green smoothie recipes. You made need to add a little more liquid to keep the smoothie blending smoothly
- Vitamix. I recently upgraded to a Vitamix and it's smoothies are truly amazing. Incredibly smooth, no lumpy pieces, and no issue blending the thicker smoothies
- The Phillips blender that came with my food processor. A basic blender, I find this works just fine! Slightly less blended than the Nutribullet.
