Ingredients Needed for Strawberry Matcha Latte
Here’s what you need to make this delicious strawberry matcha latte recipe:
- Matcha Powder: Use ceremonial-grade matcha for its vibrant green color and smooth flavor, ideal for drinks like lattes.
- Milk (for matcha): About 50ml of your preferred milk, from dairy to almond, oat, or soy milk. I personally like to use oat milk. I think it works best with the matcha flavor and compliments it well.
- Strawberries: Use either fresh or frozen strawberries for the puree. They’ll create a naturally sweet, slightly chunky base.
- Monk Fruit Sweetener: This zero-calorie sweetener provides sweetness without sugar. It creates an extra sweet matcha latte. However, you can choose to make this drink without the monk fruit sweetener as the strawberries are already naturally sweet especially once they have been made into a puree.
- Milk (for serving): Add your favorite milk (about a cup) to create the creamy texture.
- Ice: A handful of ice keeps the drink chilled and makes it super refreshing!

Tips and Tricks for Perfecting Your Strawberry Matcha Latte
- Matcha Quality: Use ceremonial-grade matcha for the best flavor and vibrant green color. Lesser quality matchas are okay but beware they are not vibrant green and become more brown in color as the quality decreases.
- Whisking Matcha: A matcha whisk is ideal for achieving a smooth, frothy finish, but an electric milk frother can work too (maybe even better!).
- Controlling Sweetness: Adjust the monk fruit sweetener to taste based on how sweet your strawberries are. If you don't enjoy overly sweet drinks you can choose to completely omit the monk fruit sweetener. the strawberries are already naturally sweet and become even sweet when they are cooked.
- Storage: Extra strawberry puree can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days, making future lattes even faster to prepare.
Frequently Asked Questions about Matcha Latte
Can I make this strawberry matcha latte without the monk fruit sweetener?
Yes! I like to add monk fruit sweetener to make it extra sweet. However, strawberries are already naturally sweet and they become even sweet once cooked. This is especially true if you have managed to get your hands on super fresh, ripe and sweet strawberries.
What’s the best alternative to monk fruit sweetener?
Stevia or erythritol work well as sugar-free alternatives. You can also substitute for regular white sugar too if you don't mind using a little but of refined sugar from time to time.
Can I use frozen strawberries?
Yep! They made need a little longer in the pot whilst cooking because they will need to fully defrost. Frozen strawberries are a great option if you don't want to add any sugar. This is because frozen strawberries are consistently sweet.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Making This Recipe
- Using low grade matcha: Ceremonial matcha has a superior flavor and a vibrant green color for lattes and drinks. Using a cheap matcha will not have the same flavour will be more brown than green.
- Skipping the strawberry simmer: cooking the strawberries is what makes them super sweet and gives a slightly chunky and sticky sweet strawberry texture. It's not the same if you choose to simple just muddle the sweetener and strawberries.
